Make a Difference
Through hard fought battles by resident volunteers we have built a community that provides permanently affordable housing to low-income residents in the City of Boulder. A developing difficulty in our community is that residents face rising costs of living and inflation that make it difficult if not impossible for low-income persons to afford to maintain their homes. Many of those residents are now beyond working age and living on fixed incomes. Others are veterans, disabled, or struggling with their mental health. Though the City, County and disaster relief services have offered many programs over the years to assist with repairs and home replacements, many residents were disqualified for reasons that seemed arbitrary or were entirely unknown. Others gave up pursuits for assistance after encountering one too many barriers to approval. The net result is a small percentage of our low-income population left living in aging homes, some without functioning plumbing, roofs and ceilings caving in from water damage, and with mold in their homes that contributes to respiratory illness, among other things. Part of the MHA’s mission is to protect the rights of residents, and we believe that having safe and decent housing is a right everyone should have.
Over the years the MHA has fought to get funding to assist residents in need, but the system has presented many obstacles to access. For this reason we have decided to turn to our community and neighbors and ask for their support. We have a number of organizations who may provide skilled labor, and residents in the community who may provide some amount of skilled labor, but funding is absent, as are materials for these projects. Please consider donating to our efforts to directly improve the lives of residents in need in Mapleton Park.
The MHA is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Donations to this fundraising campaign are tax deductible.
